Do you like old school websites?
« on: October 20, 2019, 09:31:49 PM »
I highly recommend this little place for quality static HTML website templates, they are free! It is understandable that you don't want a static website because of all the trouble with coding and needing of a database, however they still may be inspiring in case you decide to build your own theme for the CMS of your choice.  :)

Also, this designer builds templates for old fashioned (germany made) CMS, like Webspell and Ilch.

Do you love those old school custom HTML websites? We do! We started designing web templates way back in 2007, and we still enjoy doing so today.

Before the evolution of cell phones and tables, we didn't have to worry about responsive web design (RWD). Hell, in 2007 we wouldn't had been able to tell you what RWD even meant. Although responsive designs are much needed today with the evolution of mobile devices, especially if you are running an online business, many people still don't mind utilizing HTML fixed width and fluid styles for their own recreational websites.

Platforms like Wordpress definitely make maintaining websites easier, but I found that several old school web developers like myself, still enjoy designing those retro templates.

I've posted many of my old themes here for people to view and/or use if they like. I plan to develop more and share as well. To me, it's still enjoyable and I appreciate the "old school" web era. Enjoy!

Now the forum I built for the main site, on a subdomain is finished:

I used MyBB 1.6, a custom theme modified to match the fonts, colors and logo of the main site, some funcionality plugins, no supporting ads.

Did you custom design your main website?

I am using one of the templates made by the author on the first post and adapted to the Webspell CMS, they all have CC 3.0 license.  :)

https://www.gamer-templates.com/cms-templates/webspell-templates/item/military-v2-template.html

However I changed many secondary things, especially on the header and the footer areas. Fonts were also changed to Trebuchet, which are more familiar/common of this gaming age...some custom sections not included by default, like the TeamSpeak tracker one or the Military Radio player, were added :)

About the last one, I have to think of something useful to replace it soon, as this music player was made with Flash, a technology which will be deprecated and unsupported by all browsers next year.

Flash is dead man. Html5 is all the rage now.
