Looking back onto the migration
« on: February 22, 2020, 09:08:10 AM »
Hi SE-JAY,

I first wanted to tell you that I am really impressed by how the migration went, without any mayor problems! :)

I just wanted to share some points I noticed and which you could keep in mind for future migrations which may happen as you continue to grow ;)

First it would be great to have a thread here in the announcement section where you inform about what you are going to do and what impact it's gonna have (I know there were E-Mails, but I personally received two which told me different things 😅) so anybody has the same information. You could also post some quick, Twitter like updates there so everyone knows what is happening, like "Migration has started" and especially also a post with the new IP address and further steps after the migration has finished.

Another point is (I don't know if it is even possible for you but I would like to mention it) that you maybe could leave the old broken server online until DNS Propagation has finished for everyone. As I said I don't know if it was possible and how much this extra day would have cost you but especially for paying customers this would be an adequate service I think....

Last but not least you could provide an up/down page where anybody can see if it is just his website or all the services are down... This would also be great for new costumers as they don't know that you really deliver the 99% uptime (at least if there is no migration going on) unlike other free hosters...

So, now keep the good work up and continue this great project!

Greetings from Germany :)

Oh and another point is that I noted that as your server is in Europe and as therefore you need to comply with European laws, you could also use this point (especially GDPR) to promote your service  ;)

Totally my screwup. Thanks for the call out. I used to do that in the past. This time, I got overwhelmed with multiple things at the same time, and totally skipped my mind. Definitely will do that in the future.

We actually updated the name servers and moved everything over to a cluster. Moving onward, NS Change would no longer be necessary.  I actually updated the DNS info locally a week before migration announcement. As long as anyone uses our DNS server, it should have and in the future, it will be seamless :)

Something I have been thinking about for a bit. Wih NexusBytes growing rapidly over the last year, I have many changes that are being implemented, which would make overall user experience much more fun :)

As for GDPR : https://nexusbytes.com/knowledgebase/2/Nexus-Bytes-LLC-Privacy-Policy.html

Everything has been working flawlessly from my end so far, of course according to my small needs.   :D

The one thing I noticed though, I don't know if it could be caused by my browser, it's that the directadmnin control panel takes more time to respond, specially when using the inbuilt file browser. I mainly use Firefox.

That is strange.

Probably the theme. Try changing the theme to something else?

Trying that, I'm a bit lost here...on the main user menu there is a "skin options" tab, then the window that opens, options being "master login" and "icon pack"?

Or is it the theme changing located on another menu that I can't see?
