If you want your domain changed, the easiest way to do it is to backup your current site that you wish to have your domain changed, send a request to Jay to have service canceled on the old domain (this will take upwards to 24 hours in some cases), sign up for a new site with your new domain and lastly restore all of your site files from a backup (either an entire folder or a ZIP file via FTP or the file manager in DirectAdmin as those are only supported and will only work on the server) to your new domain. You'll have to do this each and every time you wish to have your domain name changed on your hosting account as you can only host 1 SITE ONLY at a time on the free hosting plan.

Nah boss, I like to make everyones life easy. It is not that difficult to make those updates on the backend. But your method is perfect for anyone and everyone, even those who are switching from others :)

I spent 9 USD on namecheap for a .com domain, I think it is well worth it for a year, IMHO for a commercial endeavor much more so...hosting can be changed, but not as easily your brand or the recognizable name of your community once you are already established.  ;)

And as mentioned, you can even spend less if you fish patiently.

Oh wow! That's wonderful! When I used WordPress on here once before for the Minecraft Los Angeles site (now on GitHub Pages as a static site), I mostly have the free Google reCAPTCHA plugin by BestWebSoft to protect both my login form, registrations and in some cases comments (I never use WordPress comments as I mostly have Discuss for comments). It's very easy to use as you can select between version 2 (I'm not a robot checkbox) or version 3 (the silent one that bases you on a score) and all you have to add into it is your site's public and secret keys from your Google account. It's still one of the best plugins to have for any WordPress installation! ;)

Nice! I finally found what works best for both of my ancient CMS-php based sites, domain and subdomain. They are not WordPress...probably I will have trouble when php 5 is not longer offered by any hosting providers, BUT...I can't upgrade as my custom themes are not compatible with newer versions. And I absolutely love these designs.

For the Webspell CMS, just disabling all guest comments did the trick. I still get the odd human spammer from India, however they are negligible and quite easy to remove. Some don't even bother to activate their account, making things easier. This main site does not offer many commenting choices anyway, even for registered users.

For the MyBB Forum, the registration question tematic-relevant is working wonders, combined with the stopforumspam plugin recommended by SEE-JAY  :), and banning suspicious bot spiders of hyperactive IP ranges.

The old CAPTCHA, in both cases is easily bypassed now by smarter bots, and I can't implement a newer version. Not that I want to install Google-related things like Analytics, Adwords, Google reCAPTCHA...while I can afford to do this (is a non commercial site...)

From what I heard of other webmasters, thare has been a recent upsurge of spam coming from China and India, so it IS getting worse and worse for us small admins just to keep things tidy.

I guess maybe one day, only a few big fish will be able to invest enough money to get rid of spammers..

This is an alternative to using the anti-spam plugins that come with some CMS like WordPress.

ALWAYS make a local copy of your .htaccess file before changing ANYTHING, otherwise you run the risk of your site not being accessible. Be careful.  ;)
