This is for random chat. Talk random, go random. Talk about anything and everything you want to. No racism, don't be an ass to others :)

This thread looks like IRC chat!  :P

Being the retro gamer guy, I recently went back to it and thought, such a good thing has so much less users now, thankfully it's still alive somehow with many networks.

It probably just needs a bit of re-hyping for the new kids and channels will be on fire again. And I don't really like Discord, which is the modern child of IRC.

Is IRC still a thing? I thought Discord is the IRC?

Venerable IRC is now just for nostalgic old timers and some young curious minds. Chat population has been growing in total numbers, but in relative numbers to the total internet population is a tiny crowd. Opensource networks like freenode are the most active and interesting.

Discord (which is owned by a private company, like FB or TW) is the new chat craze. Kids love it because it has many colors, ability to embed videos/memes as in a forum (but on instant chat) and the VoIP incorporated with voice channels. It's just too alluring...I understand.

However, they don't realize of the pitfalls of a one company owning everything. I already had my share of disappointments with Microsoft, Yahoo, Google...back in the day. They can just close their software with the snap of the fingers, even with millions of active users. They don't care.
